Operation
Crackerjacks / Mission S3-01 / Mission Briefing
Mission Objectives:
1. Retrieve stolen endonanite sample.
2. Discover identity of the thief.
3. Capture the thief.
4. Maintain cover of the hidden research facility.
Background:
Pembleton-Mulgrove Research Center is a top-secret military research facility in
northern Virginia, specializing in robotic and remote-controlled drones and
missile guidance systems. Beneath the research center is another facility
so secret it has no classification. This second facility engages in
cutting-edge nanotechnology research. At 10am this morning, one of the
nanite samples was discovered missing, along with signs of intrusion. The
second facility was put on immediate lockdown, and the former Secretary of
Defense contacted the Director of SAGA for aid in resolving the situation.
Location:
The hidden research facility is accessed from an office on the ground floor of
one of the buildings of the PMRC. Two guards are stationed in an outer
office, and two others in an inner office. The offices are big enough to
give the illusion that the staff of the hidden research facility work
above-ground. Access to the hidden research center is through a single
elevator shaft, locked by electronic key and biometrics, and only openable by
members of the research staff or the guards, and requires two people to open.
The research facility consists of several offices, a conference room, kitchen,
and bathrooms. There are four main laboratory rooms and several equipment
storage closets. There is a basement level containing a power generator,
climate control, water treatment, and computer servers. The laboratory
rooms include an animal lab, a room with large magnetic force containment cells,
an two rooms with smaller containment cells and other apparatus.
The hidden facility is connected to the power grid, but contains its own water
supply and air filtration system. It is not connected to any external
networks and is shielded from most forms of wireless communication.
Facility Staff:
Only six people work in the hidden research facility and all were present
this morning during the lockdown.
Dr. Richard Johann: The facility's
director and head researcher; a tall grey-haired man with a kindly demeanor and
an expert on nanotechnology. Dr. Johann initiated the lockdown procedure.
Dr. Michael Frambly: Facility
controller, in charge of the computer infrastructure, containment cells, and
security systems; a young bright-eyed man.
Dr. Laura Holland: Biologist in
charge of animal research on the endonanite team. She has short, curly
brown hair and freckles.
Dr. Albert Hung: Engineer in charge
of the exonanite team; a lanky Asian man with glasses.
Dr. Horace Boulevard: Computer
specialist working on AI. A stocky man with short hair and a stubbly
beard.
Jody Kaplan: Secretary,
administrator and custodian. An older woman with permed blond hair and too
much eyeshadow.
Research Subjects:
Lateral Exonanite Array
v5.1: Nanorobots in this swarm can hook together to form
macrorobots in a variety of shapes and colors and perform many different
physical tasks. The swarm possesses distributed processing for autonomous
operation, and is stored in magnetic force containment cells.
Fractal Exonanite Matrix v2.4: A
competing design with the Lateral Exonanite Array v5.1, this nanorobot swarm is
more energy-efficient and less physically powerful but with a much more advanced
Artificial Intelligence. It is also designed to form macrorobots and is
stored in magnetic force containment cells.
Asymmetric Endonanite Colony v1.12:
Nanorobots in this swarm exist within living organisms. They "infect" the
organism to enhance physical characteristics and nervous system response.
Because they can't exist in the atmosphere, they are stored in a fluid
suspension. One of the sample jars was opened at some point last night and
the endonanite sample removed.
Operation Parameters:
This operation will not be run undercover as SAGA's help has been sought
explicitly and the time frame is short -- the endonanites must be recovered soon
or they may dry up and be destroyed. However, the facility staff
themselves are not aware of SAGA; Agents should NOT reveal precisely which
agency they work for.
Agent Bulldog will be the controller for this mission. Agents are free to
choose equipment that suits their needs but SAGA does not have time to acquire
specialized equipment.
SAGA asks that Agents avoid killing any of the research staff or PMRC guards if
possible.
